Nesting

We've been busy bees this week!  I know we still have several months to wait until we're able to travel to bring Abbie home, but I decided a productive outlet for my excited energy would be to work on her bedroom and organize the clothes we've accumulated over the past two years for this mystery daughter of ours.

Clothes were brought out of the attic where they've been sitting in rubbermaid tubs and sorted by size/type, the dresser was given a fresh coat of paint, and, after discovering that we clearly had some gaps in her wardrobe (ahem, how's that for an excuse to hit the terrific Labor Day sale at Carter's), a few new items were added to the closet.

Abbie's bedroom is currently our guest room.  Up until one week ago, this is what it looked like - rather generic and sterile.

We started by adding Abbie's pictures to the door to her new bedroom, along with some fun wooden cutouts that our friend and fellow adoptive parent V sent us.  They're positioned on the door at eye-level for 3 and 4 year old big brothers.

Next up, paint selection.  Option 1 was turquoise and a slightly darker accent wall:

Option 2 was turquoise and an accent wall slightly lighter than that of option 1:

We went with option 2.  Monday morning (pre-shower, so pardon the less than glamorous shots to come), my mom and I started at it.
And as Abbie will soon discover, Grandma loves a good theme.  Her "paint shirt" just so happened to match the paint color.  :-)

So, that's how we spent Labor Day.  Grandma sewed the crib dust ruffle and big bed throw pillows during the week.  Tonight we polished everything off with the dandelion mural and canvases painted by Mommy, Daddy, Brayden, and Gavin.  Here is the finished product:

Now we just need to bring home our little girl to occupy her new room!

  1. What a great idea to have everyone in the family paint something to go in her room. Love it. The colors you picked are beautiful :O)
