New Hope Foundation and Love Without Boundaries

In our most recent update on how Abbie's doing, we learned that she is being cared for in a medical foster facility outside of Beijing.  It is called Hope House and is run by the New Hope Foundation.  Abbie is in the Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit, which is supported by Love Without Boundaries.  She was transferred from her hometown orphanage to Hope House in May of last year.  Love Without Boundaries and the New Hope Foundation coordinated and sponsored her surgery in June and she has remained in their care ever since.  We are hopeful that she will be able to stay at Hope House until we arrive in Beijing and then we will travel together to her Provincial capital to process her adoption.  (Typically children are sent back to their hometown orphanage, which has jurisdiction over their care, shortly before families travel to meet their child.)

Hope House was founded in 2000 by an American physician and her husband, Joyce and Robin Hill, and they still run the home today.  The care Abbie is receiving at Hope House is incredible.  Even compared to the "good orphanages" and foster facilities, Hope House is the crème de la crème. Here is a link to the baby care policy guide at Hope House, if you're interested.  For those of you who have adopted children internationally or are currently in the process, you will understand why I was so delighted with the content in the policy guide!  (And for you cynical types who say it's nice to have these phenomenal policies on paper, but practice may be very different than policy, I've spoken with several families with children who have been in Hope's care and it's the real deal.  There are also many, many volunteers who have been in and out of Hope over the years and attest to its quality of care.)

We will be bringing over five suitcases of medical supplies for Hope House through the New Hope Foundations courier network.  If any of you are traveling to Beijing, consider contacting the US donated supplies coordinator (contact information at the bottom of this link) to transport a suitcase or two of needed supplies!
